The term "Eastside" is used to describe the suburban communities located to the east of Seattle’s Lake Washington. These communities include: Bellevue, Kirkland, Redmond, Renton, Issaquah, and Mercer Island. Others include Beaux Arts Village, Bothell, Clyde Hill, Hunts Point, Kenmore, Medina, Newcastle, Sammamish, Woodinville, and Yarrow Point.

The Eastside is connected to Seattle from Medina by the Evergreen Point Floating Bridge, also known as the "520 bridge" by the locals, which is the longest floating bridge in the world at 7,578 feet. From Mercer Island, the Lacey V. Murrow Memorial Bridge (the second longest floating bridge in the world) and Third Lake Washington Bridge (I-90) provide access. The Eastside is also accessed by I-405, which is a loop-route off of I-5 that runs to the east of Lake Washington from Tukwila to Lynnwood.

The Eastside boasts strong ties to technology with many large high-tech companies operating out of the area, including Microsoft, T-Mobile USA, Nintendo of America, Vulcan Ventures, Expedia.com, InfoSpace and the former AT&T Wireless and Western Wireless (which are now part of Cingular and Alltel). There are also many large companies that operate major divisional and/or regional offices such as Boeing, Verizon Wireless, Google, Walt Disney, and FOX Sports.

With so many successful technology companies within the area, it’s no wonder that some of the world’s wealthiest people call Seattle’s Eastside home. In fact, Microsoft’s very own Bill Gates, aka the wealthiest man in the world, resides in a beautiful mansion overlooking Lake Washington from Medina.
